BREW Seattle came about last year when Seattle Magazine decided to host their own beer festival and was contemplating a theme. With all of the different beer-centric events this city sees throughout the year it seemed like there was still one thing missing, an event that focused solely on the multitude of breweries that make Seattle a craft beer mecca. With BREW Seattle that void was filled. This event is a means of paying homage to the almost 50 breweries producing fantastic beer within our city limits. Last year’s inaugural event took place in Pioneer Square, however this year’s will take place at the Fremont Foundry on Friday, October 10. Tickets (purchase here) for the event will cost $40, which gets you: a mini-mug for tasting, 6 tasting tokens, unlimited BBQ from Pinky’s Kitchen, beer floats from Bluebird Brewery, fresh produce from Farmstr, and live music.

Part of the proceeds from BREW Seattle benefit the East African Center (EAC). Founded in 2002, the EAC is a community-based organization that provides education and health programs to several villages on Kenya’s coast.
The EAC’s mission is to help communities eradicate poverty by empowering themselves, by improving literacy for women and children, and by improving the communities’ overall health status. The organization currently operates a variety of successful programs, including one of the area’s highest performing nursery and primary schools, a health services outreach program via a team of Community Health Workers (CHWs), and an HIV/AIDS education program.
