This weekend (Sat. 8/15), Flying Bike Coop is opening the doors of its Greenwood taproom to the public and Washington can at last formally say hello to its first co-op brewery!
The grand opening of Flying Bike Brewery’s taproom has been in the making for a while. Having established the co-op in 2011, Flying Bike has grown to over 1500 members in the past 4 years. The membership is composed of beer enthusiasts and home-brewers alike. Their Member Driven Beer Program allows members to submit and vote for the beers brewed and served in the tasting room. Flying Bike beers have been showing up at local festivals for a little while now and one of the beers born of this program was even selected to appear at the Great American Beer Festival!
This past May, Flying Bike brought on Kevin Forhan as Head Brewer. Forhan brings with him a ton of experience from his time as Regional Brewer for RAM Restaurant & Breweries as well as positions with Elysian, Big Time, and Pike. “Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery is clearly something special. Many people have worked long and hard, essentially as volunteers, to make it happen” says Forhan. “I’m honored, excited, a little nervous, and very hopeful that Flying Bike has a future as unique and promising as its beginnings.”
So head on over to Flying Bike’s taproom this weekend for the official kickoff!
Flying Bike Coop Brewery and Taproom is located at 8570 Greenwood Ave N.
