National Cheeseburger Day Crawl Burger #3: The Sloop Tavern

IMG_20150918_193108On we go, this time back down 24th and west on Market St. where we dive into stop number 3: The Sloop Tavern

And by dive we mean it, The Sloop Tavern is a dive in the truest sense; full of locals who all seem to know one another, pool tables, Big Buck Hunter, Sloopersized 1L steins of beer, and a well worn in aesthetic. Likely not for the faint of heart, but if you pass it by just because you don’t like to leave your comfort zone then you’re missing out. Because this place is awesome.

The choice: The Sloop Tavern Cheeseburger

This is a 1/4 lb of lean ground beef with melty cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle slice, and Sloop special sauce on a sesame bun. The burger was well cooked, this is no doubt a thinner patty but still extremely juicy and flavorful. Very well done. We also opted to wash it down with a couple of brews, I grabbed a Redhook ESB and Matt grabbed a Miller Light tallboy (he might not be in Milwaukee anymore but he still loves his Miller). All in, between the burger and brews, we got out of Sloop for a hefty $13. Like we said – “dive bar.”

After finishing up the brews we felt rejuvenated and decided to march on to a fourth stop.

  1. […] Next, we made our way back down 24th and further west down Market Street to The Sloop Tavern. It was our first time at The Sloop Tavern and we can unequivocally state that this place was a dive. But not in a bad way, it had all those good divey qualities you look for: friendly locals, pool tables, darts, and most importantly – good food. Service was fast and friendly. The classic cheeseburger was good but not great. This was also the point where we figured a beer would be appropriate. Beers helped wash down the burger and we were out the door and on our way.
